Get more engagement from the content you already have

Written by Marie Xhauflair

One activity barely gets completed. It is tempting to conclude the content missed the mark.

Usually it did not. Either learners never saw it, or they saw it and had no reason to click. Both are fixable in minutes, without making anything new.

👀 Good to know

If your whole stream feels flat rather than one single activity, start with keeping your stream up to date instead.

Step 1: check that learners can see it

If nobody has opened the activity at all, this is not an engagement problem. Learners are not seeing it in the first place.

✏️ Tip

Log in as one of your learners and look at their stream yourself. It takes a minute and you have your answer. See the impersonation feature.

Step 2: check where it sits

If learners can see the activity and still walk past it, the spot it sits in is the most likely cause. Position, widget type and layout all decide whether it gets noticed.

Go to Behaviour > Stream to see all three at once. For what each choice does, read setting up your stream: what learners see first.

Step 3: give it a spotlight of its own

If this activity really matters right now, do not leave it in a group with everything else. Give it its own spotlight widget near the top, so it reads like a priority instead of an option.

One spotlight at a time works best. Two or three at once cancel each other out.

For the widget types you can use, see the widget overview.

Step 4: give learners a reason to click

The text around the widget does a lot of the work.

  • Use the super title to tell learners why this is here, and why now

  • Give the widget a name that sounds like a reason to click, not a category

👀 Good to know

Learners read their stream in seconds. "Ready for the new collection?" gets more attention than "Product knowledge 2026".

Step 5: bring learners back to it

A good spot on the stream gets the activity noticed once. A notification brings learners back to finish it.

  • Remind learners who started but never finished

  • Nudge learners who have not been back in a while

Step 6: check whether it worked

Change one thing at a time, then give it a week or two before you judge the result. If you move the widget, rename it and send a notification all at once, you will not know which change did the work.

✏️ Tip

Note the completion figure before you change anything. It makes the comparison a lot easier two weeks later.
