The stream is the first thing learners see when they log in.
What sits at the top usually gets done. What sits at the bottom often gets missed. This article covers the three choices that decide what learners see: the order of your widgets, the type you pick, and the way the tiles are laid out.
How the stream decides what learners see
Two things work together.
Widgets are the boxes. They hold your activities, journeys, and programmes, and they decide how that content looks on the page.
Automations are the switch. They decide which learners actually see a widget and the content inside it.
A widget on its own shows nothing. Add the automation, and the content appears for the right people.
🚧 Be careful
Activities and journeys needs to sit inside a widget to show up in the stream. And without an automation to present it, learners will not see it.
The order matters most
The stream shows widgets in the order you set. The top of the page gets the most attention. For some learners it is the only part they look at.
Go to Behaviour > Stream
Drag and drop a widget to move it up or down
Put content that should be finished first at the top. Put optional content to browse below it

Moving a widget takes seconds and changes what learners see straight away. Try that before you build anything new.
Pick the widget that fits your message
Every widget type gets a different amount of attention. Pick the one that matches how important the content is.
Spotlighted activity or journeys, or programme: one item, big and in the middle. Use it for the thing that matters most right now. Read more about spotlight widget types.
Activities, journeys, or programmes: a group of items in one box. Use it for content learners can go through in their own time.
Sessions: shows planned sessions. Read more about the sessions widget.

✏️ Tip
Use different widget types on one page. If the stream looks the same every week, there is nothing new for learners to notice.
Slide or grid: how the tiles are laid out
You choose the layout for each widget. The same content can look very different depending on what you pick.
Slide: learners swipe through the tiles sideways. Good for a long list you want to keep small on the page.
Grid: the tiles sit next to each other. Good when you want learners to see everything at once.

You can set up a widget for one group without changing what everyone else sees.

You cannot move widgets around while a filter is on. Turn the filter off first.
