Keeping track of the different versions of your projects is essential. This becomes especially crucial when you are crafting detailed learning bites in Studio, where each iteration might contain significant modifications or improvements.

This feature allows you to save and track the different versions of your activity as you make changes. It serves as a safety net, allowing you to restore to previous versions if needed.

Getting started with versioning

Visit this article to find out about how to create and edit an activity in Studio.

Step 1. Save your activity by clicking on the "Save" button, which can be found in the upper right corner of the activity view.

Each time you save your activity, a new version is created, helping you to monitor the progress and modifications made throughout the development process.

Step 2. On the right menu, you will find a clock icon. Clicking on this icon will reveal the version history of that particular activity, displaying all the versions that have been saved previously.

Step 3. In the version history panel, identify the dot menu that appears next to each version entry.

Step 4. To view details of a specific version, click on the dot menu and select the "view" option from the dropdown.

Notice that the clock icon turns blue when viewing an older version, indicating that you are currently reviewing a previous version and cannot make changes at this stage.

Step 5. If you wish to revert to a previous version, click on the dot menu adjacent to the chosen version and select the "restore" option.

This action discards the changes made post that version, enabling you to resume editing from that specific point.

Restoring to an older version actually creates a new version in the history. This means if you restore an older version by mistake, you have the flexibility to revert back to your newer changes without losing any work.

💡 Tips for smooth versioning

  1. Adding notes while saving: Every time you save a version, a screen will pop up, allowing you to add notes describing the changes or updates made in that version. Utilise this feature to keep a well-documented history of your activity's evolution.

  2. Maintaining a regular save habit: Develop a habit of saving your work at regular intervals. This practice helps in documenting even minor changes, creating a detailed version history.

  3. Using the restore feature wisely: Exercise caution while using the restore feature to prevent a cluttered and complex version history.
