We've all been there. You download Duolingo, or start a new fitness app, feeling great and in it every single day…. Then a month later, you can't remember the last time you logged in, let alone where you left off.
Fact: it's not about willpower. It's not about the programme. It's just that things got busier. And that's where streaks come in. They make an effort to keep learners close to their progress, instead of losing them within a month.
What streaks actually do
A streak counts every unique day a learner logs in. Miss a day? No penalty. The count doesn't reset, it just keeps building the next time they show up. Log in on Monday, disappear for a week, come back on the following Tuesday, and that's a two day streak, not a zero.
Hit a set number of login days and a badge lands automatically, with a title and image that sounds like your organisation, not a generic system!
Make it a membership, not just a badge
Here's where things get interesting. Learners earn streak badges as they log in, but a badge that unlocks something real is a lot more powerful than one that just unlocks just an icon on the platform.
Think of it like this: someone hits 30 login days, and you encourage them to keep going with an actual perk, a discount, a small gift, or a shoutout!
You can already set this up using automations. A streak milestone triggers a notification, and that notification can point to whatever reward makes sense for your company. Streaks tracks the progress for you, and the recognition too.
Getting started
Streaks sits behind a feature flag. Head to Settings, then Features, search for Streaks, and switch it on.
From there, personalise it under Behaviour, then Streaks: add your own badge images and celebratory messages so it feels like your platform, not a default!
