All about streaks

Written by Marie Xhauflair

What is a streak?

A streak counts the number of days a learner has logged in to the platform. These login days are cumulative: They add up over time and they never reset.

A learner who logs in on Monday, skips the rest of the week and comes back the following Tuesday has a two streak login days!

When a learner reaches the number of login days set for a badge, that badge is awarded automatically!

Why streaks increase engagement

1. Streaks are visible

Learners can see their own login history laid out on a calendar, with every login day marked.

That turns something invisible into something a learner feels ownership over.

2. Progress never resets

Because the streaks are counted using the cumulative login days, even if a user misses a day and doesn't login, it won't reset their streak. If a streak is broken, a user might not come back to the platform...

Here, the badge a learner is working towards always stays within reach. There is no point at which giving up feels easier than continuing.

3. Quick wins come early

The first badges arrive after just a few login days. Learners get a sense of achievement, which is the start to creating habit to return to the platform.

4. Streak badges feels personal

You control the badge titles and images, so the recognition sounds like it comes from your organisation rather than from a generic system.

✏️ Tip

Streaks work best when there is a reason to return.

They pair naturally with content that is spread over time. To find out more how to unlock content gradually, check out this article: 👉 Setting up time-based visibility within a programme

Getting the most out of streaks

  • Rewrite the titles in your own voice: The presets are a starting point. A badge called "On a roll!" in your own tone of voice lands better than a default label.

  • Keep the badge imagery consistent. Learners see all seven badges side by side, so a coherent set feels far more rewarding than seven unrelated images.

  • Set your thresholds before you launch. Raising the number of logins for a badge later on takes it away from learners who already earned it.
