This guide walks you through adding an LTI 1.1 activity, filling in the required fields, and adjusting settings for different types of content.
💡 Tip:
Use LTI 1.1 only if your provider does not support LTI 1.3.
🚧 What you’ll need before you start
Make sure you have:
The LTI launch URL (provided by the external system)
The client key
The client secret
Minimal passing score of the activity (if required)
These values are usually given by the external content provider per activity or per provider. The launch URL often differs per activity and per language.
Steps to set up LTI 1.1
Go to Control > Content > Activities.
Click Add external content (top right).
Select Connect LTI solution and choose LTI 1.1.
Fill out the fields as shown:
Content ID: a unique ID to make the activity searchable
Title: the name of the activity as it will appear to learners (see note below)
LTI launch URL: URL for the external activity (different per activity, sometimes per language)
LTI client key: provided by the external content provider
LTI client secret: provided by the external content provider
Treat the number sent by the LTI provider as:
A final score (default): use for exams or graded activities
Progress: use for learning content without a score requirement
Minimum passing score: a number between 0–100. Leave at 0 if learners should always pass.
Click Create LTI activity to save.
Find your new LTI activity in the list to view details.
Note ✏️
You can also later edit the title, image, or advanced settings from the activity details page, after setting up the LTI 1.1.
☸️ Optional settings
Translations: Add launch URLs for different languages via the translations icon next to the URL and title fields.
Settings tab: Change the setup anytime after creation.
🌞 What to check everything is working after setup?
Launch the activity to confirm it opens the external tool correctly.
Verify scores or progress are sent back from the provider as expected.
Make sure the passing score (if used) matches the provider’s configuration.
✅ What to expect after setup
Learners can access the external activity directly from your platform.
Depending on your settings, results will be recorded as either a score or progress.
