Introduction

LTI 1.3 offers a secure and modern way to integrate external learning tools with our platform. You’ll first create an LTI 1.3 tool in the integrations area, then link that tool to an activity.

πŸ”§ What you need before you start

Ask your external content provider for:

  • Tool name

  • Initiate login URL

  • Redirection URL

  • Keyset URL or Public key (depending on provider setup)

  • Any custom parameters the tool requires

Important πŸ”₯

A TinQwise admin must enable Outbound Content Integration with LTI 1.3 in your platform so you can set up the LTI connection

1. Create the LTI 1.3 tool

  1. Go to Control > Content > Integrations > LTI 1.3 tools.

  2. Click Create LTI 1.3 tool.

  3. Fill in the fields with the information from your provider:

    • Tool name

    • Login URL (Initiate Login URL)

    • Redirection URL (general redirect URL of the tool)

    • Connect with: choose Keyset URL or Public key

    • If Keyset URL is selected, enter the URL provided

  4. Click Save.

After saving, you’ll get connection details to send back to the provider:

  • Client ID

  • Deployment ID

  • Platform keyset URL

  • Issuer

  • Authentication request URL

  • Access token URL

2. Link the tool to an activity

  1. Go to Control > Content > Activities.

  2. Click Add external content.

  3. Select Connect LTI solution and choose LTI 1.3.

  4. Fill out the fields:

    • Content ID: make the activity searchable

    • Tool name: select the tool you created in Step 1

    • LTI launch URL: specific URL for this activity (if needed)

    • Custom parameters (optional): enter any parameters required by the tool

    • Include score: check if you want scores sent back; leave unchecked for completion-only tracking

  5. Click Create LTI activity.

πŸ’‘ Tip:

If you leave the LTI launch URL empty, the platform will use the Redirection URL from the tool setup automatically.

πŸ‘€ Good to know

  • For LTI 1.3, only the resource linking flow is supported: deep linking is not available.

  • When progress is sent from the external tool to our platform, only completion will be saved (no detailed progress data).

  • Each provider may have unique custom parameters. The format usually contains an = (e.g., course=xxx). No extra spaces are allowed.

  • You can create automations for your LTI activities just like any other activity in the platform.

  • Example: an external LTI provider currently linked to TinQwise is GoodHabitz.

πŸ“Œ What to check after setup

  • Confirm the activity launches correctly from our platform into the external tool.

  • Verify that completion (and scores, if enabled) are reported back accurately.

  • If you use custom parameters, test that the correct content is delivered.
