How can I set up automations for an exam, where passing will result in the user getting a certificate, but failing will mean they get put in a new group and get additional content?

To grant a certificate when a user has successfully passed an exam, create an "Activity is completed" automation. Add the conditions "Is group" and "Is activity in event". In the "Is activity in event" condition, add the exam and indicate that the exam is completed and the passing score (e.g., above 80% means the user passed). Finally, add "Grant certificate" as an action.

To add a user who failed the exam to a new group, follow the same steps for creating the automation and adding the conditions. Now, instead of completed and a passing score, indicate that the exam is incompleted and the failing score (e.g., below 80% means the user failed). Finally, as an action, add "Add user to group" and include the new group the user should be in.

Why don't my users see the sections and activities within a journey even though the journey is unlocked for them?

You need to check the automation that unlocks the journey for the users, and make sure that either the "unlock all sections" or "unlock all activities" or both checkboxes are ticked. This will ensure that the content is available for the user.

How can I transfer progress from one activity to another for my users?

You can create a "check periodically" automation. You will need to define the conditions under which the progress should be transferred for the users (e.g., you can add "is journey/section" and choose the specific journey, and mark that it needs to be completed + add a user/group condition). Finally, as an action, you can choose "Complete module" and choose which module should be set as completed for the users.

💡 Note: you should first make the new activity/journey available to the users before creating and enabling the automation. The automation will not apply to the users if they do not have access to the new activity.

How long does a "check periodically" automation take before it's applied to the relevant users?

  • For unlocking or locking content, the action is executed immediately at the moment the automation is triggered.

  • For other action types, a “check periodically” automation may take up to 60 minutes to be applied to the relevant users.

Does a "check periodically" automation trigger only once or multiple times per user?

  • When an event is checked periodically, it means it is triggered every hour from the moment the automation is activated.

  • However, for notifications specifically, using this event type will only trigger the notification to be sent once per hour.

    • This means you don’t have to worry: users won’t receive 10 notifications after 10 hours

Will automations apply to users who met the conditions in the past?

No, automations do not work retroactively. They will only be applied if the user meets the conditions after the automation was created.
