Actions in automations are a great tool for differentiating content for the different users on your learning platform. Unlocking content in the right way will not only help you to customise the learning experience, but also to prevent issues in reporting.

Using the 'unlock journey/ section' action

If you unlock a section without also unlocking the parent journey, there will be users displayed in the Journey Reporting and in Progression exports who have no access to the section in question. To prevent this, make sure you follow the instructions in this article.

When using the action 'unlock journey/ section' to unlock a section, make sure to always use an accompanying 'unlock journey/ section' action for the parent journey as well. You can do this in two ways:

  1. By creating a separate automation containing the 'unlock journey' action, OR

  2. By adding the 'unlock journey' action to all the automations where you unlock sections for this journey.

By doing so, you will ensure that the journey is locked properly when the sections are locked, and that journey reporting will only show the users for which the sections have been unlocked.

Using the 'is journey/ section' condition in combination with the 'unlock journey/ section' action

When using the 'is journey/ section' condition for a section, you have to make sure that the section will be unlocked for the users. If users get access to the activities in the section through the 'unlock journey' action, make sure to check the 'unlock sections' checkbox.
