This FAQ covers general LTI questions and the basic setup requirements for connecting with external content providers or hosting your own content in another platform.

❓ General LTI questions

1. What is LTI?

LTI stands for Learning Tool Interoperability. It is a way to integrate our Growth platform into your own learning management system (LMS). We generate an LTI link and credentials to configure our Growth platform as a learning tool directly inside your LMS. Your users can then enjoy the Growth platform learning experience from the LMS they are already familiar with.

2. What do users see when they open Growth platform via LTI?

They are redirected to the discovery stream set up in Growth platform. From there they can open activities and journeys without having to log in again. They will see the exact content configured in Growth platform for that LTI integration.

3. Why would I choose LTI?

When you do not need LMS features from Growth platform (such as user management, course management, and reporting) but still want to deliver the Growth platform learning experience and formats to your users. LTI is also a low-impact implementation.

4. What is the difference between LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3?

Both are integration standards, but LTI 1.3 is the latest and most secure version, using updated authentication protocols. In TinQwise, LTI 1.3 supports resource linking flow.

5. Can I use both LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3 in the same platform?

Yes, both versions can be active at the same time.

6. What is remote LTI?

Remote LTI allows you to host TinQwise content in another LMS while keeping it in the TinQwise platform. Learners access the content directly from the external LMS.

βš™οΈ Setup and prerequisites

7. How do I enable the LTI feature in my TinQwise platform?

Contact TinQwise Support to enable LTI. If you do not see LTI options in your integrations menu, the feature is not yet active.

8. What information do I need from my external content provider before I can set up an LTI connection?

  • LTI 1.1: Launch URL, client key, client secret

  • LTI 1.3: Tool name, login URL, redirection URL, keyset URL or public key, and any required custom parameters

9. Can I set up LTI for specific groups only?

Yes, it is required. If you don’t select a group, other groups might also access the content.

10. Can I change groups or settings after creating the LTI connection?

  • LTI 1.1: Yes, via Content > Integrations > LTI 1.1

  • LTI 1.3: Yes, via automations in the content settings

  • Remote LTI: Yes, through Groups > Type (Sorting groups linked to programmes)

πŸ“Š Using LTI with Growth platform

11. What user information is passed on to Growth platform?

Growth platform collects the user ID from your LMS, plus the first and last name. Email may also be passed on depending on your LMS. No other user data (such as department or role) is collected.

12. What data is reported back to the LMS?

Completion rates for all content available to the target group are reported as a score between 0 and 1 (e.g., completing 50% of activities = 0.5).

13. Are LTI integrations multilingual?

Yes, if your TinQwise platform and its content are translated, users can switch between languages within LTI.

14. Is a new LTI needed after a new version is released?

No, new platform and content versions are available immediately once published, without needing to update the LTI link.

15. How many LTI integrations can I have per Growth platform?

As many as you need. You can create separate LTI links for different target groups, such as customers or departments.

16. What am I missing with LTI?

You cannot use reporting, content differentiation, or user notifications. You also cannot create or edit content directly, as LTI is implemented without access to Content Builder and Control.

17. How does LTI differ from SCORM integration?

LTI offers a smoother user experience and more secure data exchange. SCORM often opens in a pop-up window and its communication can be intercepted in the browser, whereas LTI usually works within the same window and uses encrypted communication.
