Learning is a cognitive process that takes place in a social context. You might want to offer your learners a social context when training skills like applying, analysing, evaluating, and creating. The platform has features that provide this social context to your learners ๐ช
What are social features?
Upon answering a question, learners see others who have answered the same question (also called social answers).
Learners receive notifications about interactions in the social timeline, including comments, likes, and new posts by teammates (this feature must be enabled).
Buddy system: Managers can pair two users (buddy and coachee) to help them interact more easily within the platform.
Social profiles: Learners can see each other's profile data (name, function, and email if allowed) to support social learning.
In this article, you will find information on:
Filtering social features on the platform level
Step 1. Navigate to TinQwise Control > Settings > General
Step 2. Find the social learning box.
Step 3. Click on the pen icon in the upper right corner of the box.
Step 4. Choose the groups that can see social answers
Here, you can select the group type for which you want to activate the social features. Users will only be able to see the social answers of those who are in the groups with the same group type.
Filtering social features on the activity level
Step 1. Navigate to TinQwise Control > Content > Activities
Step 2. Find the activity you want to set up the social features for.
Step 3. Click on the activity. This will direct you to the activity details page.
Step 4. Find the Activity settings box. Click the pen icon on the upper right corner of the box.
Step 5. Select the group type that you would like to filter for your learners.
Important ๐ฅ
All the changes you make here will overwrite the platform settings. If you donโt select any group type on the activity level, the platform settings will be applied.
For example, you might want to enable the social features for all users on the platform level. In this case, you should select a group type that includes all users. However, seeing the answers of all platform users might not always be relevant. In that case, use the filter on the activity level. This will allow learners to see interactions only of others who are in their group/team.
Good to know ๐
Social answers are only shown between users in the same group type, and when they share the same language settings.
Social features are eligible for MPC and open question templates. It is not possible to activate social features for activities that cannot contain these templates (e.g., an assignment).
Commonly asked questions
โ Can I remove old test answers but keep the option to add new ones?
Yes: you need to reset the module for the users for which you donโt want to see the old social answers anymore.
Once reset, users can submit new answers, and those will become part of the visible social layer for others in the same group and language context.
