Welcome learners with a guided start. In this article you will set up an automation that unlocks the Intro and Intake when someone registers, with optional targeting for specific groups. You will also learn how to test and troubleshoot the setup.
What are Intro and Intake
Intro/walkthrough: a short walkthrough to introduce your platform and highlight key features.
Intake: a short form to collect basic profile details, such as a profile photo or contract start date.
You can show different Intros/walkthroughs or Intakes to different user groups using automations.
Create an automation that unlocks an intro or intake
Go to Control > Behaviour > Automations.
Click Create automation.
Enter a name, for example Unlock intake for group: Onboarding.
Set the event type to User registered.
Add a condition if you want to target a specific audience.
Example: Is group β choose the group for new joiners.
Add the action Unlock intake/intro.
In the dropdown, select the specific Intro or Intake you want to show.
Click Save, then Activate the automation.
π‘ Tip:
You can create multiple rules if different groups need different Intros or Intakes.
Variations you might need
Different flows per group: repeat the steps above and change the Is group condition for each audience.
How to confirm it worked
Create or pick a test learner in the target group.
Log in as the test learner and confirm that the Intro or Intake appears.
In Control > Behaviour > Automations, open the rule and check its run history to see the event fired and the action applied.
If the Intake collects fields, submit the form and verify the data appears on the learner profile.
Troubleshooting
If the dropdown does not list your Intro or Intake, check that it is created and published.
If the learner never sees the Intro, confirm that the User registered event actually happened for that user. Re-enrolling a test user can help reproduce the event.
If a user is in multiple groups, review your conditions and decide which rule should apply.
π₯ Important:
If you have more than one rule targeting the same learners, make sure only one rule unlocks a given Intro or Intake to avoid conflicts.
