Smart exams allow you to take more formal tests from your learners. It has capabilities like a re-usable question database, random sampling of questions from various folders/categories, examination time limits, retry limits and various options for either hiding or showing examination feedback. The smart exam is the most flexible and smart format available in learning platform.

Set up a question database

The question database is the child page you need to select in the Content Builder to add the question bank (question database folder) to it.

Set up a question bank

A question bank is a “question database folder” in the Content Builder that the smart exam pulls questions from.

Here you add the templates (questions) that you want to add to your question bank.

🖌️ Available templates:

  • Fill-in-the blanks

  • MPC image

  • MPC test

  • MPC video

  • Ordering

  • Hotspot blind

Tags and time frames can be added to a question (template) to refine which questions should be surfaced in the smart exam.

🎯 How to build Smart exams

The “Composite examination” is created as a format in CB, it contains:

  1. Title

  2. Text with image

  3. Attempts allowed, threshold

    1. Learners are allowed to retake the exam as many times as it is stated.

    2. Even learners who passed the exam can retry if they still have attempts left.

    3. The latest score is saved in learning platform.

  4. Question groups: selected question folder, # questions, score threshold

  5. Result:

    1. Show question feedback yes/no -> will shows an overview of all answered questions, whether these are correct/incorrect and the feedback entered per question in the content builder.

    2. Show question review with correct answers -> only works in combination with "Show question feedback". Will show what the correct answers are.

    3. feedback for the full exam with passed / failed / failed no more retry

  6. Time limit

Number of questions

The number of questions that will be selected during the exam for the end-user (if there’s less than the indicated number, only the available ones will show).

Score threshold

A number between 0-100 which is min. % of correct questions to pass.

Tags

  • question bank: you can add one or more tags to questions

  • smart exam: if you add a tag filter to the smart exam, it will filter all the questions that have that tag in the question bank, the questions that don’t have the corresponding tag will not appear

⏱️ Timer

On the smart exam, you can add a timer (in minutes) to the exam. If the time runs out, the learner’s progress is saved and calculated for the answered questions, the unanswered ones are counted as ‘incorrect’ automatically.

👨‍🎓 And you're ready to test your learners!
