This feature is a powerful tool to differentiate what your learners are required to complete vs. content they can do at leisure. It also allows managers to set KPIs on different types of content: what really matters for business KPI purposes and what is part of a more holistic learning approach.

In this article we will cover:

  • Enabling the Optional content feature

  • Creating optional content in Automations

  • Filtering on Core vs. Optional content

Enable the feature in the TinQwise Control settings

In TinQwise Control > Settings > Features select the Optional content feature and tick the enabled checkbox, save. This will allow you to differentiate core vs. optional content on the platform.

Create optional content in Automations

All content is set as core by default, therefore it is only relevant to follow the below steps if you wish to define optional content.

The content can be differentiated directly in TinQwise Control > Behaviour > Automations by clicking the Optional checkbox in the following actions:

  • Unlock activity

  • Unlock journey

Add another unlock activity or unlock journey/section and keep the optional checkbox clear for the content that should be defined as core.

Filtering on core vs. optional content on the platform

Once the core vs. optional content is set up in TinQwise Control, managers can filter learner's core vs. optional content completion across the Reporting feature on the platform. Go to the navigation menu and click on 'More', and then to Reporting.

Learners can filter on core vs. optional content by clicking on 'More' in the menu, and then 'My Progress'.

Please note: the content marked as optional won't look different to the learner in the growth platform unless the option to show the optional tag is enabled by a developer. These are the styling options you can request (you can also choose only one):

  • Enable the optional tag (the background colour of the tag corresponds to the platform's secondary colour)

  • Enable the dotted checkmark (it will be shown on the tile regardless of the learner's progress because it symbolises that the activity doesn't necessarily require completion)
