This article walks you through how to create skill badges, configure reward conditions, and automatically assign badges to learners based on activity, journey, or section completion. You’ll also learn how badge resets work when criteria change.

🧱 Create badges and skill categories

To start, go to TinQwise Control > Behaviour > Upskill

1. Create a skill category

  • Name

  • Description

2. Add skills to your category

Each skill includes:

  • Skill title

  • Skill description

  • Badge image

  • Completed badge image: The image shown when a badge is awarded

  • Call to action: Text under the skill before it’s completed

  • Completed message: Message shown after the badge is received

  • Celebration message: Message shown when the badge is awarded

🎯 Grant badges automatically

You can automatically award badges after a learner completes an activity, journey, or section via automations.

βœ… ... after completing an activity

Set up an automation with:

  • Event (trigger): Activity is completed

  • Condition: is activity (add the activity)
You can also add user conditions like is group to limit visibility to specific learners.

  • Action: Grant badge

    • Reward: Choose the badge from Upskill

    • User source: Choose event β†’ user for automatic awarding. Use self to give it manually to an individual.

  • Click Save to finish

πŸš€ ... after completing a journey or section

Use this setup if you want to award a badge after completing a learning journey or section:

  • Event (trigger): Journey/section is completed

  • Condition: is journey/section (add the journey)
You can also limit by group using the is user in group condition.

  • Action: Grant badge

    • Reward: Choose your badge

    • User source: Choose event β†’ user for automatic awarding. Use self to give it manually to an individual.

  • Click Save to finish

☝️ Note:

Do not combine Journey/section completion as an event with an is journey/section condition. Use one or the other.

FAQ

πŸ”„ Can you reset a badge for one person?

Yes, the activity for the user needs to be reset manually

🎈 What if the conditions for the badge changes or the badge becomes expired?

If badge requirements change (e.g., a new activity is added, or a badge now shows ! for expired modules):

The user must re-complete the expired modules to earn the badge again.
Simply updating the automation does not re-award the badge. Progress must be reset by redoing the content.

Important

Additional conditions for the automations:

  • Completion date: Set only once: the first time a user earns the badge. It doesn't change on repeat completions

  • Expiry date: If configured, will update after each new completion
