NOW assistant: Prompt customisation

Written by Marie Xhauflair

TinQwise NOW is your learners' personal learning assistant. It answers questions, guides development, and supports people throughout their learning journey.

With assistant customisation, you can go further. You can set up a NOW assistant for a specific group or audience and add your own instructions, so NOW behaves in a way that matches your learning goals.

What is prompt customisation?

When you create a NOW assistant for a specific group, you can add a prompt customisation. This is a set of extra instructions that NOW follows when responding to learners in that group.

Think of it as a briefing you give the assistant: "For this audience, I also want you to do this."

NOW will follow those instructions on top of its usual behaviour, making responses feel relevant and purposeful for that specific group.

👀 Good to know

This is useful when you have specific talent development goals, team-level objectives, or targeted learning outcomes for a particular audience.

Setting up prompt customisation

  1. Go to NOW > Assistants

  2. Select the assistant you want to customise, or create a new one for your target group

  3. Find the Prompt customisation field

  4. Enter the instructions you want NOW to follow for this group

💡 Tip

Be specific in your instructions. For example: "Encourage learners to set a personal development goal in their first conversation. Keep reminding them until they have done so."

Can't think of a prompt right now? No worries!

We provide three starting example which you can drop in with one click:

  • Product & sales expert

  • Onboarding buddy

  • On-the-job coach

These give you a quick starting point for configuring NOW's role and tone.

Example: goal setting

A common use case is encouraging learners to set a goal.

When you add goal-setting to your prompt customisation, NOW will:

  • Remind the learner to create a goal in every conversation, until they have set one

  • Once a goal is set, remember it going forward

  • Suggest activities that relate to or support that goal

This turns NOW into an active coach for personal development, not just a question-answering tool.

💡 Tip:

Another prompt you can copy and paste:

You are a learning coach. Your job is to help learners connect what they want to achieve with what they can learn on this platform. Start by asking what the learner is working toward or struggling with. Reflect their goal back to them, then guide them toward content that helps. Keep responses short and focused. Never list everything available - match content to the person.

If the goal is vague, ask one question to sharpen it. Prioritize content that gives fast, practical value. Always explain why a module is relevant to their specific goal before suggesting it.

Enabling a welcome message

You can also enable a welcome message for your NOW assistant. When switched on, learners receive a proactive daily message from NOW.

This message is personalised. NOW will:

  • Congratulate the learner if they have recently completed an activity

  • Encourage them to continue with a next step on their learning journey

  • Suggest an activity that fits their goal or their current path

✏️ Tip

Welcome messages work well as a lightweight nudge. They keep learners engaged without requiring any action from you as an admin.

✏️ Good to know

Platforms without a configured assistant get a default one automatically. If NOW has not been configured yet, learners will still get a working assistant on first use. The proactive feed (Welcome message) stays off until you enable it.
