How impact surveys work in programmes

Turn impact surveys on, edit questions, and know how they work in programmes

Impact surveys help you capture learner feedback and confidence before and after a programme. They’re built into new programmes by default and easy to manage from Studio.

Turning impact surveys on or off

  • When you create a new programme, impact surveys are on by default

    • You can toggle them off right there in the setup screen

  • You can also turn impact surveys on later, even after the programme has been created (however it will impact the results)

    • This is useful for older or in-progress programmes where you want to start collecting confidence data.

💡 Tip:

To get full before-and-after insight, it’s best to keep them on from the start.

Don’t worry, they won’t be visible to learners just yet, they will need to be published first!

How survey versions work (A/B)

There are always two impact surveys:

  • Impact survey 1 (shown before content)

  • Impact survey 2 (shown after content)

🔥 Important

These are linked: editing one automatically updates the other.

This ensures a consistent survey experience for all learners.

What learners see (new vs. existing programmes)

Learners in new programmes

  • These learners will see Impact survey 1 before they begin the programme

  • They must complete the first survey to unlock the journeys within the programme

  • Impact survey 2 will remain locked until all journeys are completed

✏️ Note:

This flow gives you a full before-and-after picture of learner confidence and impact.

Learners who already completed the programme

  • Adding impact surveys won’t affect their progress

  • The programme will still show as completed in their Progress tab

  • Even if new activities or surveys are added, the programme remains complete

  • If they open the programme later, they are prompted to complete Impact survey 1

  • The rest of the content is locked until the first survey is completed

Example of data when an impact survey is added after the programme was already completed:

Learners currently in progress

  • If you add an impact survey after a learner has started the programme:

    • Impact survey 1 will appear unlocked

    • All journeys and Impact survey 2 will be locked

    • Once Impact survey 1 is completed, learners can continue where they left off

✏️ Note:

This offers some insight, but won’t capture the full impact of the programme since the learner didn’t complete the "before" survey at the actual start.

How to edit the survey questions

You have two ways to edit impact surveys:

  1. From Studio:

    • Go to Studio > Activities

    • Search for [Programme name] Impact survey-1 or 2

    • Edit the activity like any other normal studio activity

  2. From the programme view:

    • Go to the Programme

    • Find the Impact survey and click the pencil icon ✏️

    • You’ll be redirected to the survey editor

✏️ Note:

Changes you make to Impact survey 1 will automatically update Impact survey 2.

Moving impact surveys in a programme

You can reposition impact surveys within a programme to better fit your learning flow.

For example, you might want learners to complete an intro journey first, before reflecting on their confidence. In that case, you can move Impact survey 1 to appear after the intro and before the core content begins.

How it works:

  • Hover on the Impact survey 1 and click on the arrows to wherever you want it to be triggered

  • This allows more flexibility in how you structure your learner experience

✏️ Note:

  • You cannot move Impact survey 1 after Impact survey 2. The before/after logic must remain in order.

  • Moving the survey doesn’t affect your data, it still tracks learner confidence relative to where you’ve placed it.

Removing impact surveys from a programme

You may want to remove impact surveys from a programme, for example, if they were added by mistake.

Option 1: Unpublish the impact surveys (recommended)

The safest way to remove impact surveys is to unpublish them. This:

  • Removes the surveys from the learner experience

  • Keeps any data already collected

  • Allows you to re-enable them later if needed

💡 Tip:

This is the best option if the programme is live and some learners have already completed the surveys.

Option 2: Delete the impact surveys

You can also delete the surveys from a programme, but be aware:

  • This permanently removes both Impact survey 1 and Impact survey 2 from the programme

  • You’ll lose all collected data

  • You’ll need to recreate the surveys from scratch

  • The impact surveys will not be removed from the platform, you can still find them in Studio (under Activities). From there, you can delete them from the platform completely.

🔥 Important:

Only delete impact surveys if you're sure you no longer need the data or survey structure.
