This feature shows an activity tile with a lock when the time condition to unlock it is not yet met. It is great for creating a “coming soon” moment that keeps learners curious and on track.
Enable the feature in Control
Go to Control > Settings > Features.
Search for Show locked modules and turn it on.
✏️ Note:
Without this feature enabled, learners will not see locked tiles.
How it works
A tile appears locked when the activity is targeted to the learner but the time condition is in the future.
When the time condition becomes true, the lock disappears and the learner can open the activity.
If the time is already in the past, the learner will not see the locked state and can access the activity.
🚧 Be careful
In two cases the lock never opens. The first is a timespan whose end date has passed, because the platform does not reopen it. The second is a learner whose profile is missing the date the condition uses, for example no contract start date. For "coming soon" conditions, leave the end date empty and check that your audience has the date filled in.
Prerequisites
The activity must be placed inside a widget on the stream.
The learner must be in the audience targeted by your rules.
Setting up the automation
Step 1: unlock the widget that holds the activity
Go to Control > Behaviour > Automations.
Click Create automation and give it a clear name, for example Unlock widget: Week 1.
Set Event type to Check periodically.
Add a Condition for the audience, for example Is group → Netherlands.
Add Action: Unlock widget and select the widget that contains your activity.
Save and Activate.
Step 2: unlock the activity with a time condition
Create another automation and name it, for example Unlock activity: Week 1.1.
Set Event type to Check periodically.
Add the same audience condition you used for the widget, for example Is group → Netherlands.
Add an additional Condition: Time and set a date in the future for when the activity should unlock.
Add Action: Unlock activity and select the activity.
Save and Activate.
🔥 Important:
The lock shows only when the learner matches the audience and the Time condition is not yet met. If you forget the audience condition, the tile will not target anyone.
What learners will see
(and confirm that the setup works)
Impersonate a test learner who matches the audience.
Visit the stream and check the tile.
Good to know
You can combine Is group with Time to show different locked items to different audiences.
The lock appears only when the widget is unlocked for the learner.
Time uses the platform’s configured timezone. Set your unlock time accordingly.
Troubleshooting
Tile does not show at all: make sure the widget is unlocked for the learner.
Tile shows unlocked too soon: check that the Time condition is set in the future and that you saved and activated the rule.
No lock icon: confirm Show locked modules is enabled in Settings > Features.
Learner can open the activity before time: verify the learner is not targeted by another rule that unlocks the activity without a time condition.
Lock never opens: check that the end date of the time condition has not passed and that the learner has the date the condition uses.
